Established in 1873, our brewery is continually evolving, but maintaining the traditional methods of production.

The history of Tsurumi Brewing started in 1873, when founder Teizo, who was originally concerned with the dyed goods business, started the sake brewing.
Maintaining the traditional methods of production from the Tsushima area and the merits of handmade production, and harmonizing these methods and merits with efficient modern systems of quality control, we are working in order to produce ever better sake, bringing out the flavor of rice and giving it a rich taste.

The sake from Tsushima, the city that once was called

Tsushima flourished since the Kamakura Era due to its important position between Owari and Ise, across the river Kisosansen. Taking advantage of being located in the riverside area, this city flourished and under the domination of Owari warlord "Nobunaga Oda", in the Warring States period, became an important commercial center of Owari area known as "Nobunaga's kitchen". It is told that Nobunaga Oda and Hideyoshi Toyotomi used to love the Owari Tsushima Tenno Danjiri-boats Festival, which has a history of about 500 years and that now is officially designated a Significant Intangible Folk Cultural Asset.

Tsushima, which flourished due to its location in the riverside area and to the abundance of clear water from the river Kisosansen, offers numerous specialties and sake is one of these. In Tsushima, Shintoism, represented by the Tsushima Shrine, was very popular and also for this reason, the sake brewing prospered. Our Tsurumi Brewing is one of the breweries that has inherited this tradition and its methods.

Highest quality ingredients and traditional methods of production

The secrets for an extra quality sour sake with a refreshing aftertaste are "rice" and "water". We use underground water of the river Kisogawa, which crosses the wilderness of the Shinano area, to give the sake a velvety smooth taste and using selected premium ingredients such as Yamadanishiki rice, we have succeeded in creating a sake with a robust flavor that does not alter the taste of sushi.
